Greenwich Park is London's oldest Royal Park, dating back to 1433.
For the last two decades it has been home to one of the landmark events of the international sporting calendar: the London Marathon.
The first race started here in 1981 and, with adjoining Blackheath, Greenwich Park has been the start-point ever since. A field of 7,747 runners competed in the first race; in 2003, it was a record 46,500.
Covering 183 acres, the Park is home to the Old Royal Observatory, the National Maritime Museum and the 17th Century grandeur of the Royal Naval College.
